Have Gospel - Will Travel
From Bourbon Street to Barranquilla...
As a young boy, my parents didn’t attend church. However, my uncle saw to it that I had a ride to church and church clothes so I could go whenever my father would allow me to attend. At the age of 15, I came under conviction of my need for Christ. I talked to my pastor who shared the gospel with me using the Roman Road. He told me that whenever I was ready to make a commitment to Christ, I needed to come forward in church during a worship service at the time of invitation.
After waiting for a couple of weeks, I did finally come forward and a few weeks afterward was baptized. However, I don’t believe I truly understood what it meant to be born again and my commitment was not genuine.
I continued to attend church throughout high school and off and on during college. I knew a few things about the Bible and could answer questions in Sunday School. However, I didn’t know Jesus.
After graduating from college, I went to work, and I met a man named Tim who loved the Lord. He would always talk about the Bible and going to church. I could tell that his relationship with Christ was genuine and mine was not. One night, in the spring of 1994, I went home and went to my room. I was still living with my parents at the time. I shut the door and knelt by my bed. I prayed and asked Jesus to take control of my life.
From that moment on, I knew I had eternal life and that my commitment to Christ was genuine. The Holy Spirit began to change me in many ways. Not long after my conversion, God started dealing with me about going into ministry.
I met my wife Penny about that time, and we were married in 1996. Not long after, I publicly declared my call to ministry at my home church.
Since then, I have served as an evangelist proclaiming the gospel in nearly every kind of context you could think of. Recently, I pastored a local church for 6 ½ years. Wherever God leads in the future, be it Bourbon Street or Barranquilla Colombia, I want to follow God's plan for me and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to the lost.
